Water Landscape von Willem van Leuveren Fotografie

The Netherlands is the drainpit of Europe. Continuously, rivers carry sand, gravel and other erosion from remote mountain areas and everything is dumped with us. Low on low is the country on which we live. The Netherlands is in fact a huge river delta. In the past, it has been one large river surface several times. These rivers flowed into untouched rivers, flooding and rebuilding sand and gravel banks everywhere. Nowadays, the river area is more restrictive of the size and bay of Meuse, Rhine and IJssel, quietly kept under the control of cribs and dikes. In the last decades, in the context of nature development, we tried to free the rivers from the corset of dikes. Natural processes can go on their way again.
